“I like your idea” is a lie
It feels like validation. But it isn't.
Hey,
When you show someone your software idea, most people won’t tell you the truth.
Not because they lie.
Because they’re nice.
They say things like:
“Interesting.”
“I can see this being useful.
“Keep me posted.”
And you walk away thinking:
Ok. There’s something here.
Maybe there is.
But you don’t know yet.
Because nice answers don’t cost anything.
What costs something?
A second call.
A real intro.
A sample file.
CRM data.
Budget.
A paid pilot.
A meeting with the person who can actually say yes.
That’s why I don’t use questions like:
“Would you use this?” or “Would you buy this?”
They invite people to be nice.
I rather ask:
“What would need to happen for you to try this next week?”
Then listen for friction.
And after that, look for commitment.
Not compliments.
Adam
